This post marks the beginning of Dementia Action Week 2021. A Dementia Friend is somebody that learns about dementia so they can help their community.
At the time of writing, 850,000 people are estimated to be living with dementia in the UK (www.dementiastatistics.org)
With understanding and support, people with dementia can and do take an active role in life.
I became a Dementia Friend so that whenever I encounter somebody living with dementia, I am able to show a greater level of understanding, so that they can feel supported and cared for.
